PRO-SMITH SURFACES

AS RAPE convict Lance Corporal Daniel Smith remains in the Makati City Jail, a group is praying that he will soon prove his innocence. Led by a Filipino woman married to a US Navy man, the group called "Supporters of Daniel Smith" is preparing to hold a vigil for the jailed American Marine. "It's a group of military wives, expats [expatriates] and other Filipinos -- bank employees, lawyers, men, women, daughters, grandmothers -- who support Smith. This is the voice of Filipino women, not of that rape victim and her supporters," said Grace Santos, 34. Santos she said she formed the group after Smith was convicted on Dec. 4. She said the group of around 30 members would hold candlelight activities in front of the Makati City Jail to inspire hope in the 21-year-old Smith, who has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison for raping a Filipino woman inside a moving van on Nov. 1, 2005. "I am doing this not because I am married to a US serviceman. I am doing this because I am a Filipina and I know what justice is," said Santos, a native of Bulacan province, north of Manila. Santos said she had visited Smith four times since he was taken to the Makati City Jail and brought him food and books. Q

The Real Victim, Daniel Smith

Should you happen to be interested in getting in touch with sympathizers and friends of Dan, you may do so by calling Grace at  09198353728 and 09179016592. You may likewise email at justice_for_dan@yahoo.com :)

Why Are these People Doing This For Dan?
1. We believe that justice and truth is GOOD. We do not believe that persecuting an innocent person is "patriotism". Obviously, Dan Smith is innocent when one reads even the acounts of most news coverages.

2. Because we believe that "Nicole" does not personify the "typical Filipina". It would be vastly unfair to say that this "Nicole" character represents the" image of the Filipina". We would wish to do our womanhood and "national image" a service, rather than make every Filipina a laughing stock kind of character.

3. Because we believe in democracy and equal representation before OUR laws despite nationality, creed and race. We believe that Dan Smith was persecuted because he was simply "an American who was there".

4. Because we flaunt that we are the only Christian country in Southeast Asia - we also want to ACT like Christians by doing the most Christian thing which is to help the victim and fight for what is true and just. The victim here is 21 year old Dan Smith!

5. We believe we are doing what should be done because it is right. We want to show the world that Filipinos will always stand up for what is right, true and just as we did in EDSA in 1986 when we toppled a dictator. We shall not call what is a lie the "truth" and what is "good" bad. We are that that sort of people.

To Grace and all of the other supporters of Dan Smith-

We are Dan's parents and we both want to take the opportunity to tell you all how much it means to us and our family to know that there are people out there that are supporting Dan.  As you can imagine this is an incredibly difficult time for us all.

We have spoken to Dan, and all of the cards, letters and prayers mean more to him than you can ever imagine.  It is so hard for us to think about him spending Christmas in that jail, but just to know that there are people there who are thinking about him and bringing him goodies makes it just a little bit easier.  Words can never express how much we appreciate your efforts to spend time with Dan and show him support.  For me, just knowing there is someone there to show him kindness makes it a little bit easier to sleep at night.  We have a very strong faith, and we know that God is with Dan through this and through his will justice will be served.  May God Bless you all and I hope one day to meet you all and thank you personally.

Lance Corporal Daniel Smith

Last Monday at 2pm the verdict is out for the Subic Rape Case and the and it is quilty for Lance Corporal Daniel Smith. Most of the Filipino people esp. mothers cried not because of Nicole but because of Danny. There is something fishy about her character that only a few people believe her. You can ask the people who works at the Makati Regional Trial court and they will tell you that they don't like her because she is so demanding and she feels she is so important. I went to the Makati City Jail that same night and I had an interview with a reporter with QTV 11 and he ask me do I believe Nicole and I told him, I don't believe her and never will I believe her. Nicole said she has a bf but how he is with another guy in Subic bay and then went with Smith. How many guys does she wants in her life. One American guy is not enough so she went to Olongapo from Zamboanga with another American guy and then lap dance with Smith. Let us dig deep into this case and then the real truth will really come out. Let us not judge Daniel Smith because they judge handed him a quilty verdict. There are a lot of people who are in jail but they are innocent. He is convicted because He is a US Marine and he is an American.

Last Tuesday afternoon, I went to the Makati City Jail and I brought him some food and he accepted him. he is thankful. His embassy guard is a nice person too.

To Gabriela and Liza Maza: You don't like Americans because you always blamed them for us Filipinos not having a good life. You need to blamed yourselves because instead of you guys working, you're on the street rallying because there are cameras rolling. You only support high profile rape cases because of media exposes. You are all hypocrites. If only the American government will give you US visas those people rallying on the streets will be at NAIA in a heartbeat.

To Nicole: Stop giving interviews and saying that you will forgive Smith. He is not asking for your forgiveness. Go wherever you want to go and nobody cares.

To Daniel Smith's family: We will help you pray so your son can go home.

To Danny: Be pray harder and don't lose your faith in God. This thing happens because in the end something good will come out and you will be a much better person. I am starting a fund drive to help your family come here so they can be with you.

To Judge Pozon: The decision that you made last Monday will be the end of your career.
